We made this fun teal pumpkin cake and wanted to share with you. If you aren’t aware of the meaning of teal pumpkins they are for Halloween and providing for a more inclusive trick-or-treating experience for children with food allergies by offering non-food treats.
“FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™ promotes safety, inclusion and respect of individuals managing food allergies. This nationwide movement offers an alternative for kids with food allergies, as well as other children for whom candy is not an option, and keeps Halloween a fun, positive experience for all!”
We debated making a sheet pan and cutting it into the shape of a pumpkin, but this pan was so easy to use that we thought this was a better choice!
You’ll want to prepare the full batch of the cake mix to make this cake. And you can make it with our vanilla or chocolate cake mix, it is up to you!
Here it is prior to going into the oven.
You can also make this cake without the fancy pan, it will just take some cutting away of a round cake. If you are going to make it without a pan I would recommend using triangle cookie cutters for the eyes and nose and carefully using a knife for the smile.
We overbaked this cake just a tad – but it still tasted delicious!
Time for the frosting!
We used our vanilla frosting mix to make this frosting and then used a combo of green and blue food coloring to make it teal. Then we topped it with a mixture of green and blue sanding sugar as we couldn’t find a safe teal color.
Here is a closer look at how great this cake turned out!
My kids were so excited about this cake. They even asked if we could put it outside on Halloween with the other teal pumpkins! Nope… it will be gone by then!
