Boo Bark

Kate's Safe & Sweet - Boo Bark with Boo Sign

It’s Halloween spooky (and not so spooky) Halloween treats week at Kate’s Safe & Sweet where we’ll be sharing new Halloween treat recipes all week long!

Halloween Treats Week

Our first recipe for this week is homemade chocolate boo bark that is so easy and fun to make! For this we swirl together two chocolates and dress it up with your favorite Halloween candies and sprinkles. Of course we used our dark rainbow sprinkles.

The recipe can be top 14 allergen free, gluten free and vegan – depending on the choice of chocolate and toppings.

The first step is to gather all your tools and ingredients.

Boo Bark

Tools Needed:

  • Parchment Paper
  • Large Sheet Pan
  • Heat-Safe Bowls
  • Double Boiler / Stove or Microwave
  • Spoon
  • Toothpick or Knife
  • Airtight container to store

Ingredients Needed:

  • One bag of semi-sweet chocolate morsels (9oz – 12oz size)
    • Can also use semi-sweet chocolate bark if you have a safe option
  • One bag of semi white chocolate morsels (9oz – 12oz size)
    • Can also use white chocolate bark if you have a safe option
  • Festive Halloween candy such as eyeball sprinkles, dark colored sprinkles, candy corn, chocolate candies

Directions:

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate over a double boil or microwave. If you are using a microwave place the chocolate in a medium heat-proof bowl and melt in 20 second increments, stopping and stirring after each increment until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Once the semi-sweet chocolate is melted and smooth remove from heat / microwave and set aside on a heat safe counter or atop a folded-up towel. If you need to reuse the double boiler, you’ll want to remove the chocolate from it and pour into a separate bowl.
  4. Melt the white chocolate the same way as above.
  5. Pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and spread out into a large rectangle (about 8” x 12” in size is good). Drizzle or drop the white chocolate on top. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the layers together.
  6. Decorate the top of the bark with candies.
  7. Allow chocolate to completely set uncovered at room temperature or in the fridge, about 45 minutes. Once hardened break into pieces as large or small as you’d like.

Here is a look at the bark prior to breaking into pieces.
